Elisha stated in his Revolutionary War Pension file that he was born in New Milford and never lived anywhere but New Milford, but due to changing boundaries was actually born in what is now Brookfield and lived later in what is now Bridgewater. Blind or nearly so, he lived with his son Russell in his last years.
He married Rachel Bradshaw 25 Jan 1774 and filed for divorce from her 12 Jan 1814. The divorce was not granted, but they lived apart until their respective deaths.
They had 10 children: Isaac, Levi, Elisha, Clara, Sarah, Russell, Philo, Alfred, and John.
