LeRoy Eldon Lawton, 81, and Mary Margaret Elizabeth (Donahue) Lawton, 78, passed away on November 29 and 25, 2020, respectively.
Mary Margaret, affectionately known as Peggie, was born on July 3, 1942, in Warren, OH and moved to Colorado. LeRoy was born on July 16, 1939 in Craig, CO. The couple married on May 28, 1983 and made their home in Craig, along with the 2 boys each brought to the marriage. Peggie will always be remembered as a Red Hat Lady and her incredible passion for life. She worked for many wonderful years as a nurse in Chicago, Craig and Steamboat hospitals. Her generosity to others in need and faithfulness to the church were unyielding and she was a long-time member of St. Michael's choir. She had a love for horses and spent many years at hunting camp serving food and helping guests feel welcome. Most of all, she had a deep pride and truly cherished her family. As an avid crafter, she often made ornate Christmas ornaments and other handmade crafts, many were cherished gifts to family and friends. LeRoy is remembered as a tall cowboy who grew up in the great outdoors hunting and fishing. After graduation from Moffat County High School in 1958 he joined the National Guard. In 1961, he enlisted in the Army where he earned the rank of Specialist, Military Police and also received Sharpshooter and Marksman commendations. After the Army, he came back to Craig where he worked for Magabar Mud followed by the Trapper Mine, where he became pit foreman. He was known for helping hunters every fall at hunting camp, providing guidance and a piece of the "Wild West" that many have not experienced before.

LeRoy and Peggie are survived by their four children, Tracy (Carrie), Tony (Missy), Bob "Cody" (Amy), Bill (Sharell), twelve grandchildren, and their two faithful schnauzers, Molly and Lucky. LeRoy was one of ten children, and is survived by two brothers, Ronald and Lindean; and two sisters, Ilda and Eva. Peggie is survived by three sisters, Karen, Kathy, and Susie.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 4, 2021, at St. Michael Catholic Church. Following the mass, Leroy & Peggie will be interred at the Craig Cemetery and LeRoy will receive full military honors for his service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Michael's Church in Craig, CO in care of Grant Mortuary, 621 Yampa Ave., Craig, Colorado 81625.
