Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother to wife Eleanor, son Mark (Marina), and son Eytan, daughter Stacey (Steven Bricks), daughter Nealy (Richard Solymar), and Kylie and David, daughter Corey (Jason Larsen) and Corbin and Devon, and sister Mimi (Joseph Durand). Harvey was an elementary school teacher for thirty years in Ontario. He was active with the teachers' union and was chief negotiator, grievance officer, and became president of the local teachers' board union. He was active in sports playing hockey, baseball, golf, and football. He coached football and hockey in Ontario. After retiring and moving to Calgary in 1999 he coached high school football as well as being involved with the junior Calgary Colts. Mr. Balakofsky passed away on July 29, 2021 – 20 Av 5781. The funeral is Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. at Calgary Chevra Kadisha 101, 17818 - 37 St. SW, Calgary, T2Y 0M9. Rabbi Mark Glickman to officiate. The family extends sincere thanks to the staff at Clifton Manor for their care and compassion. No flowers please.
