Layne Bennett Forbes passed away peacefully on July 29, 2021 in Bountiful. He was born January 14, 1928 in Layton, Utah to Clarence and Grace Forbes. He married Evelyn Bieler on July 2, 1954 in the Salt Lake City Temple. He is survived by his three children and spouses, Kim (Jonna), Sherri (Dave) Killen, and Daren (Carolyn); his daughter-in-law, Jennifer; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, son, Randy, parents, and brothers, Dee, Charles and Homer; and his Siberian Husky, Nikki.

Layne graduated with a degree in accounting and his Juris Doctor degree, both from the University of Utah. He met the love of his life, Evelyn, on the steps of the Weber College Administration Building, from which time he was never the same. Their relationship was an example to their children and grandchildren of eternal love and devotion that only became sweeter over time.

Layne his family deeply and was constantly concerned about their well-being and safety, and that love was manifested in his daily prayers on their behalf. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and making others laugh.

Layne was a devoted and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving a 2 ½ year mission in the Central States Mission. He also served in the Army during WWII in Japan. In addition to serving as bishop of the Bountiful 33rd Ward, he and Evelyn served an 18-month CES mission to Harvard Medical School and Boston University. Upon their return home they served together as temple workers for 19 years at the Bountiful Temple.

Although a graduate of the U of U, Layne was passionate about BYU sports. He could often be found watching old BYU football games on VHS tapes. He loved marching band music and loved to lead imaginary marching bands. He was an award-winning artist and was a prolific landscape oil painter. His works of art hang in homes of many family and friends. He was passionate about practicing law and loved to regale his "famous court cases." He was a founder and director of Utah Bank and Trust and was the Bountiful City Attorney until his retirement in January 1993.

A viewing for family and friends, as well as a showing of his paintings will be held Monday, August 2nd, from 6-8 PM at Canterbury Place, 197 East 500 South, Bountiful. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 3, 2021, 11:00 AM, at the Bountiful Tabernacle, 55 South Main Street, Bountiful. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
