Mary Jane McLean, age 85, originally of Okanogan, Washington, passed away at her home on July 21, 2021, in Meridian, Idaho. Mary was the youngest of four children, born to Omar Gordon and Jennie (Talbott) McLean, on December 21, 1935. She lived in the small town of Okanogan until leaving to attend Eastern Washington College of Education. She met her husband, Donald Merton Ehinger, when she was 14. They dated on and off throughout high school and were married on December 10, 1955, after starting out their relationship as good friends. They immediately moved to San Diego, where Don was stationed, and she spent the next 22 years developing her talents and skills as a navy wife extraordinaire. She held many interesting and fulfilling jobs before she started her favorite job as "mom". When Don was out to sea on patrol, she juggled the role of mother AND father. Her independent nature and ability to "do it herself" gave her the needed strength to get through the hardship of being a single parent to 4 small children for months at a time. She was always happiest when she was with her kids, grandkids or great-grandkids and loved to travel with them. Mary was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she had a solid testimony of Christ and His atonement. She always believed that God was kind and loving and she taught that concept to her children. She met many of her lifelong friends at church. She was always available for a phone call and had the reputation for being honest. Many of her friends lived by the "don't ask Mary if you don't want to know" rule. She was a loyal and dedicated friend. Her zeal for truth telling carried over into games, too and many a grandchild would tell you, "If you wanted to tick grandma off, just try and cheat at Skipbo!" She was very intuitive, and she knew right away if she liked you. She loved musicals and the color pink. She was always up to try a new recipe or lend a listening ear. Mary was a loyal friend, a loving mother, and a faithful wife for 66 earth years. She's currently 'sitting on her favorite beach' waiting for Don.
