NEW VIENNA, Iowa -- Jean Anna Friedmann, 85, of New Vienna, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services, Dubuque, after a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, with the Rev. John O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where the Altar Society rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. and a parish scripture service will be held at 5 p.m.

She was born Dec. 3, 1921, in New Vienna, daughter of Leo F. and Pauline (Diers) Hoeger. She married George J. Friedmann on June 5, 1945, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in New Vienna; he preceded her in death. Together they farmed in the New Vienna area until retirement in 1981.

She was a member of the St. Boniface Altar Society.

Jean's life centered around her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to cook for gatherings and quilting.

Surviving are four sons, Thomas (Dianne), of Luxemburg, Daniel (Marilyn), of New Vienna, and Michael (Becky) and Steve (Mary Jo), both of Dyersville; three daughters, Georgina (Bob) Mensen and Marcia (Bruce) Kelchen, both of New Vienna, and Ruth (Brent) Manternach, of Worthington; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Wille, of Monona; and two brothers, Fred (Irene) Hoeger, of Holy Cross, and Tom (Marlene) Hoeger, of New Vienna; and many nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Annette Mensen; five brothers, Cyril, Harold, Leo H., LaVerne and William Hoeger; and several brothers and-sisters-in-law.
