Alfred J. "Fatty" Kight, 84, Mtn. Lake Park, died Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at the Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Dec. 26, 1918, in Pierce, W.Va., he was the son of the late Alfred M. and Mary (Ball) Kight. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty D.L. (Calvert) Kight; and one son, Jack A. Kight.
He was a retired auto mechanic, having worked at the Ralph Pritts Garage and Sharp's Chevrolet, both of Oakland, and was the owner and operator of Kight's Trucking and Auto Repair, Mtn. Lake Park.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and was a member of Proctor Kildow Post #71, American Legion, Oakland, and VFW Post #10077, Deer Park, where he was active in providing military honors for deceased veterans' funerals. He was also a member of Lodge #11, WOW, Oakland, and BPO Elks Lodge #2481, Oakland.
He is survived by one daughter, J. Lorraine Mason, Oakland; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 18.
A service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. David Martin officiating.
Interment will be in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the various veterans' organizations in southern Garrett County.
The family requests memorials take the form of contributions to Hospice of Garrett County, P.O. Box 271, Oakland, MD 21550.
