Illness Is fatal to Town Founder
James Monroe Perkins, 93, retired merchant and founder of Sugartown in Beauregard parish, died at 11:35 a.m. Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ann Hinson, 311 East 67th street, with whom he had been residing for the past three years. He had been ill for about three weeks. A native of Texas, he was a former resident of Elizabeth, La. Three years ago he retired from active business as a merchant in Sugartown, a town in south Louisiana, and moved to Shreveport. In addition to his daughter, Perkins is survived by three sons, R. R. Perkins of Shreveport, A. J. Perkins of Elizabeth. La., W. A. Perkins of Fields, La.; two sisters, Mrs. Elexa Baggott of Sugartown, and Mrs. Matt Dewel of Alexandria; 17 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Rose-Neath funeral chapel, with the Rev. Wilson Watson, pastor of the Morningside Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park cemetery. Pallbearers will be Elroy Mitchell, H. H. Money, R. D. Harrison, Albert Capelan, Hervey Perkins, and the Rev. J. Carver.

Funeral services for James Monroe Perkins, 93, who died Thursday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ann Hinson, 311 East Sixty-seventh street, were held Friday at 2 p.m. at Rose-Neath funeral chapel, with the Rev. Wilson Watson, pastor of the Morningside Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was in Forest Park cemetery. Mr. Perkins was one of the founders of Sugartown, La. He had made his home here with his daughter. He was a retired merchant. Surviving are three sons, R R. Perkins, Shreveport, A. J. Perkins, Elizabeth, La., and W. A.Perkins, Fields, La.; one daughter, Mrs. Ann Hinson, Shreveport; two sisters, Mrs. Elexa Baggott, Sugartown, and Mrs. Matt Dewell, Alexandria; also 17 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Active pallbearers were Leroy Mitchell, H. H. Money, R. D. Harrison, Albert Capelan, Harvey Perkins, and the Rev. J. Carver.
