Lyman H. Hastings

Some weeks ago, Lyman H. Hastings, brother-in-law of Mrs. Philip Case, came to Ithaca, worn out with work in the Insurance Department at Albany. It was hoped that rest and care would restore him in a measure at least, the health he had lost by overwork, but this hope was destroyed by the settling in of an attack of pneumonia a few days ago. To this Mr. Hastings succumbed on Sunday, his death occurring in the morning. The deceased was 64 years of age. He had formerly resided at Rochester. He leaves a wife and child who were with him at the last.

Mr. Hastings was a son of the late Rev. Horace Hastings, of Geneva, and a relative of the Rev. Thomas Hastings of New York.

The funeral will take place tomorrow and will be conducted by the Free Masons, to which order the deceased belonged.

Death of Lyman H. Hastings

His surviving relatives in Geneva were shocked as well as grieved to learn of the quite sudden death at Ithaca on the 29th ult. of Mr. Lyman H. Hastings. About four weeks ago he was taken ill of pleurisy, which developed into a severe case of pneumonia, running its fatal course very rapidly. The deceased was a native of Geneva, son of the late Horace Hastings; also brother of Mrs. Taylor and Miss Susan Hastings who are still residents of our village. For many years past Mr. Hastings had resided at Ithaca. By favor of Governor Cornell he received an appointment in the insurance department at Albany, and held his place until the late reorganization of that department by Supt. McCall. An old and honored Free Mason, the fraternity paid the last sad tribute to their departed brother by conducting his funeral with Masonic honors. His age was 64 years. He leaves a wife and one child.
