HOULTON - Ellen D. Cotton, 65, passed away Monday, June 28, 2021, at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough. She was born February 23, 1956, in Houlton, the daughter of the late David H. and Norma F. (Dow) Cotton.
Ellen grew up in Houlton, and after graduating high school, attended Ricker College and the University of Maine. She would receive her associate degree from Casco Bay College. Ellen would work for UNUM Insurance Company, a Portland based newspaper, as well as a Portland based advertising agency where her career involved writing, editing, copy proofing, and marketing. She was a big supporter of the local animal humane society shelters such as Houlton Humane Society and Ark Animal Sanctuary. Ellen was an excellent pool player and competed in the Maine State and New England tournaments. She was a strong and caring person within the community and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by cousins: David Moniz, Pamela Cesaro, Marsha Carney, Andrea Nicknair, Vicki White, and James Cotton.
A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2021, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, with the Rev. Ginny Urbanek officiating. A time of refreshment and remembrance will immediately follow at Watson Hall. A private committal will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
