Service for Daryl G. Hitchcock, 91, was Tuesday at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home and was followed by burial at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. Hitchcock, who died last Saturday, was born and raised in Weir, Kansas. He moved to Colorado, where he farmed for eight years.

He later moved to Idaho and then moved to Spokane in 1934. He worked for the Works Progress Administration during the Depression.

In the late 1930s he bought a topsoil business and operated it for 48 years. He retired in 1986.

Mr. Hitchcock was a life member of the Eagles Aerie.

He married Alma Henderson in 1924. She died in 1942.

He married Josephine Abbott in 1945. She preceded him in death.

Survivors include four daughters, Marjorie Newman of Vancouver, Washington, Lynda Von Tom of Prosser, Washington, and Karen Hester and Donna Russell, both of Spokane; four sons, Dean Hitchcock of Chattaroy, and Kenneth Hitchcock, Marvin Hitchcock, and Donald Hitchcock, all of Spokane; a stepdaughter, Nadine Kjeldgaard of Seattle; two brothers, Glenn Hitchcock of Denver, and Johnnie Hitchcock of Coulee Dam, Washington; eight sisters, Goldie Hopkins of Caldwell, Idaho, Gladys Allen of Yoder, Colorado, Verle Devena of Weir, Kansas, Esther von Kaenel of Vancouver, Washington, and Marie Van Kuren, Merle Cox, Evelyn Huff, and Thelma Hakola, all of Coulee Dam; 22 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
