Marilyn graduated from Ball State University 1972 with a Masters degree in Education and went on to teach business at Elwood High School until she retired in 1993. She married her late husband, Joe A. Barnett, and together they raised a son, Michael. Marilyn had a passion for mentoring young people and was, for many years, a sponsor of Future Business Leaders of America in Elwood. Over the years, she received many accolades for her work in education.
When Marilyn wasn't busy with work, she and her husband enjoyed travelling and were members of the Air Stream club and they took many road trips together across the country. She also loved spending time on the water swimming and skiing.
Marilyn is survived by her son, Michael Barnett; sister, Margaret Colleen Lutes; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Marilyn was preceded in death by an infant brother, Robert Doan; and other siblings, Donald Doan, Delores Capozzi and Virginia Thompson.
Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon July 15, 2021 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home - 1977 South State Road 135, Greenwood, with services to begin at 12:00 noon.
