Lydia Thomas, daughter of Absolem and Lucinda Thomas, was born in Indiana on March 28, 1878. She died at Cedar Falls March 29, 1956, having reached the age of 78 years and one day.
She was united in marriage to Allen Groesbeck January 4, 1899 at Kirkman, Iowa. They made their home in Kirkman and later in Harlan. Nine children were born to this union; one daughter, Allena died in infancy. Mr Groesbeck died November 14, 1947. Since that time she had made her home with her children. This past winter she made her home in Cedar Falls with her daughter, Juanada.
Surviving are five daugters, Mrs Juanada Guildager of Cedar Falls; Mrs Ruth Iversen of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Mrs Myrtle Spittler of Anchorage, Alaska; Mrs Alleta Graham of Davenport; and Mrs Gloria Gene Snow of Kenwick, Washington; three sons, Paul Groesbeck of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Max Groesbeck of Corvallis, Oregon and Charles of Fort Worth, Texas.
Also surviving are 29 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs Mae Sunderland of Harlan.
Funeral services were held at the Bethany Lutheran church at West Branch with the Rev. Dolliver Thogerson, brother of Mrs Max Groesbeck in charge. Burial was in the Rose Hill cemetery in Kirkman. Pauley's funeral home was in charge.
