OBITUARY:
Sandra Elaine (Smith) Riley, daughter of Eugene Elbert and Leona Maxine (Foster) Smith, was born on April 26, 1938, at Hand Hospital in Shenandoah, Iowa. She entered into eternal peace at her home in Shenandoah on Monday, July 5, 2021 at the age of 83 years, 2 months, 9 days.
Growing up in Shenandoah, she attended the Shenandoah Community Schools, graduating from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1956. Sandra was a lifetime resident of Shenandoah.
In her younger years, Sandra and her mom together owned and operated the Jack & Jill Clothing store in town. She then worked in the offices of Henry Fields Seed & Nursery Co. Most of her working years were with Hy-Vee, where she worked in the meat department as a wrapper, before retiring after 32 years of service.
Known as a dedicated bargain shopper, Sandra took great joy in the hunt for the best bargains to provide her family and friends. She also enjoyed decorating her home and helping others with theirs. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church in Shenandoah.
In 1956, Sandra was united in marriage to Rex Bain in Shenandoah. This union was blessed with two sons, Bruce and Todd. In 1995, she was united in marriage to Lee Riley of Shenandoah.
Preceding Sandra in death were her parents; stepfather, Spencer Harris; brothers-in-law, Jim Stanley and Nick Paulson; and daughter-in-law, Lori Bain. Survivors include her husband of over 26 years, Lee Riley of Shenandoah, IA; two sons, Bruce Bain and Todd Bain; stepchildren, Becky and Sam Jones, Brenda and Rod Riley and Tammy and Stuart Lutz; three grandsons; three great granddaughters; three step grandchildren; 15 step great grandchildren; three sisters, Betty Stanley, Mary Paulson and Barbara (Steve) Padilla; other relatives and many friends.
