Funeral services for Otha C. Bonham, 71, of 221 Lorraine, founder of Bonham's Foods, Inc. in 1920, will be held tomorrow in the Cage-Mills Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Milton Bohmfalk, pastor of South Bluff United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Seaside Memorial Park. Bonham died yesterday at his home after a long illness. A native of Oklahoma, Bonham had lived in Corpus Christi since 1920.
The Bonham chain started in Corpus Christi with a store at South Staples and Buford and later added two more stores in Corpus Christi before branching out to other South Texas cities. Other stores were located in Beeville, Bishop, Kingsville, McAllen, Edinburg, Portland, and Brownsville.
During the 1950s and 1960s the chain was managed by Bonham's son, Donald. In 1964 the Bonham's Rainbow Super Markets were purchased by Biel Grocery Co.
Bonham was a longtime member of the Retail Grocer's Association. He was a member of the South Bluff United Methodist Church.
Survivors, besides his son, include his wife, Gladys; one brother, J. F. Bonham of Mathis; one sister, Mrs. R. W. Roland of McAlester, Okla., and three grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Memorial Fund of the South Bluff United Methodist Church.
