Throughout his many years in Waelder, he was active in volunteering his time and talents to the community. This includes hundreds of hours helping with the construction of the Waelder Community Center. He also served for many years as both an active member and Secretary of the Waelder New Millennium Lions Club. In June 2021, he was recognized for his 35 years of service as a Fire Commissioner for the Gonzales County Emergency Services District No. 2.
Ernest was preceded in his death by his mother, Irma Gray Cobler, sister, Linda Joyce Cobler, and maternal grandparents, John and May Harrell Gray, who helped raise him. He is survived by his wife, Victoria Cobler, of Luling, Texas, sons, Mark Cobler of Houston, Stephen Cobler Sr. (Deena) of North Richland Hills, Texas, and grandchildren Stephen Cobler Jr. (Cecelia) of Gonzales, Matt Cobler (Britney) of Buda, Texas, Juanita Soto (Steven) of Cypress, Texas, Jacob and Megan Cobler of Lewisville, Texas, eleven great-grandchildren (Isabella, Gabriella, Hannah, Callie, Mackenzie, Matthew, Jr, Abigail, Zoey, Samantha, Maddox, and Kingston), and brothers Richard Cobler (Carol) of Pipe Creek, Texas and Harold Cobler (Susan) of Victoria, Texas.
Funeral services will be held on July 5, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Seydler-Hill Funeral Home, with Richard Cobler officiating. Interment will follow at the Waelder City Cemetery. Pallbearers are Stephen Cobler, Jr, Matthew Cobler, Jacob Cobler, Gilbert Martinez, Felipe Martinez, and Joe Rincon.
