Carolyn grew up on the family farm, East of Pleasanton, and met another farm kid named Don Simpson. After graduating High School in 1958 she married that kid on June 21st, 1959. Soon after, she found herself a military wife with a new baby and two more that followed close behind. A fourth baby girl made a family of six in 1970.
Don and Carolyn made their home in Leon, then Slater, Huxley, Des Moines and enjoyed their later years on their acreage near Indianola. Carolyn's career included positions at Bankers Life in Des Moines, Decatur County State Bank, Decatur County Courthouse, Owner/Operator of the Beauty Barn, Principal Financial, and managed the Huxley Casey's and Video Place. Alongside Don, they owned and operated Don's Dairy Freeze and other businesses.
Carolyn thoroughly enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Young (Galen Shepley) of Story City, Brenda Simpson of Indianola, Debbie Farahbakhsh (Vance Wheeler) of Altoona, Diana Simpson (Tom Dell) of Des Moines; brother, Denny Hill (Janis) of Rosemount, MN; 7 grandchildren, Robert, Michael, Maryam, Amir, Mina (Mirzad), Rachel (Andrew) and Marjan (Nick); 4 great- grandchildren, Makayla, Samuel, Melina, and Lionel. Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Don; parents, Maurice and Helen Hill; and brother, Norman.
A Celebration of Life is planned at New Salem Baptist Church, Leon, Iowa, 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 17th, followed with a lunch.
