George A. Aubihl 90, of Dover, died Sunday evening, Dec. 12, 2010, in the Park Village Health Care Center. George retired from the Gradall Corporation in New Philadelphia where he worked for over thirty years. Following retirement, he assisted his longtime neighbors and friends at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home in Dover for several years. Born Oct. 7, 1920, in New Philadelphia, he was the son of the late J.W. and Mary (Murphy) Aubihl. George was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church at Dover. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge at Dover. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theatre. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed spending time in his garden.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his first wife, R. Jane (Jentes) Aubihl who died Nov. 4, 1982, and his second wife, Wilma E. Wendling Aubihl who passed June 20, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Sweitzer; a stepson, Donald "Sonny" Wendling, and a sister, Joan Heinle. He is survived by three children, Elizabeth "Liz" ( husband, Terry) Miller of Strasburg, Sarah (husband, Steve) McIlvaine of Wadsworth, and Dan (wife, Sherry) Aubihl of Ragersville; two stepdaughters, Donna Walker of Dover and Marilyn (husband, Ted) Valentine of Strasburg and a stepdaughter-in-law, Edie Wendling of New Philadelphia; six grandchildren, Dr. Andrew (Missy) Miller of Louisville, Dr. Mary Beth (Kyle) Yackey of Liberty Twp., Ohio, Timothy (Kim) Miller of Commercial Point, Ohio, Lt. Jacob (Emily) McIlvaine of Port Hueneme, Calif., Alexander (Lori) McIlvaine of Lexington, Ky., and Seth Robert Aubihl of Ragersville; eight step-grandchildren; fifteen step-great-grandchildren and a step great-great-grandson; a sister, Betty (Kenneth) Kappler of New Philadelphia and a brother-in-law, Leonard Heinle of Michigan.
A funeral service celebrating George's life will be held Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the Grace Lutheran Church at Dover with Rev. Donald Rice officiating. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery at Dover.
