Rose Nell Thompson was born May 7, 1919 in Sulphur Springs, Texas; one of five children born to Thomas Henry Thompson and Jencie Pearl (Willeford) Thompson. Her father was a carpenter and her mother was a seamstress and homemaker.

Rose had special memories of going to work with her father to paint and hang wallpaper. She stood on a stool and helped paste and fold wallpaper She also learned to sew from her mother. She recalled a funny memory when her father worked for a Chevy dealership in the repair department. He was occasionally allowed to bring home a car. The car had a fold out seat in the back that faced backward where the children sat , so they never knew where they were going. She also recalled the Greenview Cemetery Homecoming which was held on the first Saturday in July. The community would gather there with their lunches, spend time with friends and family and then clean up the cemetery.

She attended Sulphur Springs schools from the first grand through graduation. Rose married Aubrey J. Bain, Jr., a school textbook salesman on October 4, 1941 in Sulphur Springs, Texas. They shared 69 years of marriage and were blessed with three children, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. They moved to Ada, Oklahoma in 1960. Rose worked as a beautician in Ada as well as a wife, homemaker and mother.

She attended the First Baptist Church. Her hobbies were jigsaw puzzles, word games, needlework and sewing. She volunteered with the PTA and at the election board. Rose was very hard of hearing but didn't like to wear her hearing aids. She would just keep them in her pocket wrapped in a tissue. If anyone commented on her hearing she would point to her pocket and say "just talk to my pocket"! She was an avid reader, loved sweets and ate cookies and ice cream every day.

Rose Nell (Thompson) Bain was inducted into the CENTENARIANS OF OKLAHOMA HALL OF FAME having reached the age of 100 years. She lived 102 years and two months. At the time of her induction she had these words of advice: "Stay busy and enjoy life!" Rose's centenarian file will be sent to the Oklahoma Historical Society to become a permanent part of Oklahoma History.
