Funeral services for Arvest Smith, 85, of Hydro will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church of Weatherford with Pastor Earl Stephenson officiating.
Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.
He died Wednesday, aug. 29, 2007, at Weatherford Living Center.
Arvest was born to Manuel Jackson and Marie Campbell Smith Oct. 9, 1921, in Mountain Home, Ark.
At the age of 6, Arvest and his family moved to Weatherford where he attended school.
He married Leona Penner while serving in the Army Air Corp. They returned to Weatherford to farm and make their home west of town.
On Aug. 14, 1957, Arvest married his second wife, Martha Holderman, in Arapaho and they made their home in Clinton, Weatherford, and McDonald, Kan.
They returned to Oklahoma in 1969 to settle in Hydro.
Arvest owned and operated a construction company building homes for approximately 40 years. He retired from building homes in 2004.
The joys of his life were his family, fishing, cards and dominios.
Arvest is survived by his wife, Martha of their home in Hydro; two daughters, Karen Miskel and her husband, Harold, of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Arvella Rucks and her husband, Charles, of Weatherford; a son, Lannon Smith of Weatherford; seven granddaughters, Melissa, Lori, Monica, Yvonne, Sondra, Amber and Jana; two grandsons, Aaron and Charles Dale; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters.
