Mr. Wendell Kenneth Cole, age 90, of Madison, Indiana entered this life on March 18, 1931 in Switzerland County, Indiana. He was the loving son of the late Raymond E. and Dorothy M. Stoops Cole. In 1949 he graduated from Vevay High School, where he played baseball and ran track. Just out of high school, he tried out for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Wendell was raised in Fairview, Indiana, and moved to Madison in 1956. He was inducted into the United States Army on February 29, 1952 at Fort Custer. He was honorably discharged on February 12, 1954 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois at the rate of Sergeant, receiving the Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. On January 19, l979 Wendell was united in marriage to Wanda M. McCoy at the First Christian Church in downtown Madison. Early in life he farmed, and he retired from Indiana-Kentucky Electric Corporation after 37 years as a maintenance supervisor. Wendell was raised in the Fairview United Methodist Church and was a member of Ryker's Ridge Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, being with his family and playing golf. He was a devoted husband, loving dad and papa. Wendell died on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at 9:22 a.m. at his home in Madison, Indiana.
A LOVING FAMILY
Wendell will be missed by his loving wife of 42 years Wanda M. McCoy Cole of Madison, Indiana; his loving sons, Kenneth F. Cole and his wife Georgene of Madison, Indiana, R. Brian Kidwell and his wife Darla of Wilmore, Kentucky; his loving daughters, Michelle Tocco and her husband Gordon of Fishers, Indiana, Tiffany McGillan and her husband Justin of Madison, Indiana; 36 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and other relatives; his sister, Helen Kay Hyde Center and her husband, Scotty of Madison, Indiana; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond E. Cole, his mother, Dorothy M. Stoops Cole, and his step granddaughter, Christie Stallings.
FUNERAL CEREMONY
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 3, 2021, at 12:00 Noon, by Dr. Kevin Crouch at the Ryker's Ridge Baptist Church, 2601 North Ryker's Ridge Road in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery,1415 North Gate Road in Madison, Indiana
VISITATION
Friends may viist Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Ryker's Ridge Baptist Church, 2601 North Ryker's Ridge Road in Madison, Indiana.
MILITARY HONORS
A final salute with military honors will be conducted by the Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion.
