According to census records, she was born in Georgia but was enumerated with her family in Wakulla County in 1850 (listed as Vastiti E Mobley, age 6. She married twice:
Her 1st husband was John McNair who was born about 1846 in Florida and died in 1874 leaving her a widow with three sons.
And
Her 2nd husband was Simeon Barco (1855-1932), whom she married about 1876 but divorced before 1885. He is buried in Crawfordville Cemetery in Wakulla County. They also had three sons.
"Ellen" was the head of the household (listed as divorced or widowed) and making a living as a farmer on several census records. In 1885 she and four of her sons, Burwell, Robert, & David McNair, & youngest son, George Barco, were living in Putnam County. Son, Joseph Albert Barco was living with his grandmother, C A Barco, in Wakulla County.
In 1900, still in Putnam County, the census record shows that "Ellen" stated she was the mother of seven children, with four living. By 1902 she had relocated to Palm Beach County. The 1910 US Census indicates that she was the mother of seven, with three children living. Six of those children have been found on census records, but the seventh is unknown or who the father was.
According to one source her son, Julius Herbert Barco was born 25 Nov 1879 and died 5 Jan 1885, no burial location is known. Her son, David Oliver McNair, died in 1903 in Ohio, at the age of 26, leaving a widow & three children. Her other child that was probably deceased before 1900 was Burwell McNair, born about 1869. The three still living in 1910 were Robert J W McNair, Joseph Albert Barco & George Curtis Barco.
In 1910, while living in Palm Beach County her occupation is unknown, but the record states she made her "own income". In 1920, still in Palm Beach County, where two of her sons, Joseph Albert & George Curtis, were also living, she was managing a boarding house. Elendor was listed in several West Palm Beach City directories as Eleanor F Barco, between 1916-1923. She is listed as (widow of Simeon) living at 436 Iris St, while her son, George C Barco, is just a few #'s away at 427 Iris St.
Her son, Robert John Washington McNair, was living in San Diego, California in 1910 & 1920 but by 1930 he had returned to Florida and was living in Palm Beach County. He died in 1938 in Gadsden County, Florida and was buried at Florida State Hospital Cemetery in Chattahoochee, FL. Her son, Joseph Albert Barco, died in 1954 & was buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Duvall Co. FL; and her son, George Curtis Barco, died 10 Sep 1972 in West Palm Beach and was interred at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Palm Beach Co., FL
