Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Stovall, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Friona City Cemetery by Blackwell Funeral Home.
Marlene was born Feb. 9, 1923, in Savoy to A.C. and Fairrie Bellows Winchester. She moved to Friona, met Earl W. Drake and they were married on June 15, 1938, in Clovis, N.M. They were married for almost 49 years until his death on June 8, 1987.
She worked for the Friona Independent School District for several years and at Fosters Dry Goods. She was a casualty assistance program volunteer with the American Red Cross for several years, former president of the American Legion Auxiliary, lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Friona Cemetery Board, volunteered at Prairie Acres Nursing Home, helped deliver Meals on Wheels and was a member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Alton Winchester.
Survivors include three sons, Owen W. Drake and wife Melody of Friona, Larry Drake and wife Judy of Amarillo and Bobby Drake and wife Ronda of Hobbs, N.M.; a sister, Alva Bedgood of Friona; nine grandchildren, Leslie, Todd, Wes, Misty, David, Lacey, Creed, Brooke and Amanda; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
The family suggests memorials be to the Friona Public Library, 109 W. Seventh St., Friona, TX 79083; or the Friona City Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 823, Friona, TX 79083.
