In his 'Hill and Holler Stories' he writes of Alonzo Prather's after war activities:
'Later, he was appointed Receiver for the Land Office at Harrison and had charge of the homestead applications and records. The Prather family lived at Harrison for a few years. This was in 1876 and 1877. Alonzo S. Prather was my grandfather and my mother was born while the family lived in Harrison. A little daughter, Gracie, died while the family lived there. She is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery at Harrison.'
