Born and raised in the Boiling Springs section, son of the late Henry Franklin and Martha Jane Elizabeth Cooley Kimbrell; he had been a member of the Abner Creek community for the past 35 years, and was a member and deacon of Abner Creek Baptist Church.
Survived by his wife, Mary Francis Bishop Kimbrell; daughters, Lucile Kimbrell Parker (1908–1991) and Annie Grace Kimbrell Smith (1912–1988); and son, Leon D. Kimbrell (1916–2002)l; two sisters, Triza Kimbrell (1885–1955) and Kate Kimbrell (1893–1961); and 11 grandchildren.
Predeceased also by his first wife, Lillie C. Cantrell Kimbrell; and siblings, Alice Kimbrell Burnett (1872–1936), Henry Simpson Kimbrell (1877–1942), Nannie Lee Kimbrell Poteat (1879–1927), and Maudy Maggie Kimbrell Stephens (1888–1934).
