VIRGILINA
Willie Jackson Yancey, Jr. passed away May 30th, 2021 at the age of 81. He was the son of the late Pearl Rice Yancey and the late Willie Jackson Yancey, born June 23rd, 1939 in Halifax County.
Willie left school to help his family after his father drowned and later returned receiving an AA degree from Wingate Junior College in 1967. He also attended the University of Richmond. Willie was an avid bowler for many years where he bowled on several leagues including a traveling league. He loved hunting and fishing with his family. He umpired for little league in the Raleigh/Cary area and belonged to the Wolfpack Club for many years with season tickets for football and basketball. He was very proud of becoming a Mason and a Shriner.
Willie is survived by his wife Deme; son Nathan and his wife, Kattie and one grandchild, Jackson; sister, Joyce Yancey Stone and husband Bernice; brothers, Herbert and wife JoAnn; John and wife Phyllis; Carson and wife Rosa Lee; Jackie and wife Campo; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Yancey Mancuso and husband Sam; and a brother Stephen Allen Yancey.
A private burial will be held at Virgilina Cemetery.
