Dorothy Rae Miller Stuckey Pitts, 93, of Wichita Falls passed away on June 23, 2021.
The family will receive friends between 6 and 8 p.m. on Monday, June 28, 2021 at Owens and Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at the funeral home with Dr. Bob McCartney, officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park under the direction of Owens and Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.
Dorothy was born on August 4, 1927 to U.D. and Eula (Aytes) Miller in Round Timbers, Texas. Dorothy grew up in Round Timbers, Texas. The Aytes family were farmers and her favorite statement was "we were so poor they had to come tell us there was a depression!" Her father worked in the oilfield and they moved from place to place following the oil boom and settling in the Kamay/Valley View area. Dorothy graduated from WFHS and later attended Draughon's Business College. She married Curtis M. Stuckey Jr. on July 2, 1945 and later married Archie E. Pitts on April 1, 1985. Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church and City View Baptist Church. She had a career in Bookkeeping as well as contributing to the WWII effort by building electric components for aircraft at Wichita Engineering.
Dorothy loved to cook and could stretch a meal to feed any unexpected guests. She passed this love of cooking and baking along to all her grandchildren, along with the recipe of her strawberry cake. Dorothy was an accomplished seamstress and made her daughters clothes including her oldest daughter's wedding dress.
Dorothy's greatest joy was being with her family. She loved gardening and shared her home and beautiful back yard with all her family and friends.
Her greatest calling was being the matriarch of her family, which included being their biggest prayer warrior, starting with her siblings, down through her great- great grandchildren and continuing till her death.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Archie; daughter, Sandi Beavers; siblings: Jimmie Miller, U.D. Miller Jr., Kenneth Miller, Ella McFadden, Carolina Frank, Barbara Roderick; parents and her grandparents.
She is survived by her children Linda Simons and husband, Charles, Marvin Stuckey and wife, Kim both of Wichita Falls; nine grandchildren: Paul Simons, Shelly Martin, Becky Batman, Lee Wayne Thomas, Tamra Malvern, Misti Harris, Clifton Stuckey, Shannon Cunningham and Megan Korves; seventeen great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews; Also survived by her two sisters, Mary Beck and Susie Powell both of Wichita Falls; and two sisters-in -law, Elsie Miller and Joyce Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls 4909 Johnson Rd, Wichita Falls, Texas 76310.
