Dr. A. Charles Allen, age 89, of Grapeland passed away Sunday, June 20, 2021 in the UT East Texas Hospital in Tyler. He was born March 16, 1932 in Grapeland to parents, Luther Allen and Veda Bell Ivy Allen. Charles graduated from Grapeland High School at the age of 15 and went on to play professionally in various quartets around the USA then later graduated from college and obtained Doctorate Degrees in Theology and Music. Charles traveled extensively throughout the United States and in over 41 countries around the world and was part of a team that smuggled Bibles in behind the Iron Curtain in the early 1970s, prior to the fall of communism. He ministered throughout Mexico and Central America teaching music and theology and also taught at several colleges.
Charles pastored the First Baptist Church in Richlands, Virginia where he made lifelong friends. Also pastored churches in Atlanta, Georgia and LaGrange, Georgia then in 1975, he moved his family back to Texas where he pastored Wayside Bible Church in Crockett for more than 50 years. After retiring, he served as the interim pastor of Georgia Camp Church in the Creek Community.
Charles was an accomplished musician and could play 16 instruments specializing in the piano and organ which many people were fortunate to have heard him play always sharing his God-given talent honoring God. Having a keen musical ear, he tuned many pianos in Houston County and surrounding counties.
He was preceded in death by parents, Luther and Veda Bell Allen; brothers, Delbert Allen, Cleon Allen, Roy Allen, Coy Allen; sister, Lucille Cutler Bradley; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jacob and Elizabeth Koppellaar; sister-in-law, Louise Zinnkann.

Graveside funeral services for Dr. Charles Allen will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2021 at the San Pedro Cemetery with Memorial Services following at 11:30 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Fellowship Church.
