On April 18, 2004, Loyd Alfred Bahney became absent from the body and present with his Lord and Savior. He was 77.

Mr. Bahney was born on Feb. 19, 1927, in Vandalia, Ill., son of the late Alfred Homer and Rosella Stimpson Bahney. He was retired from the U.S. Navy. Mr. Bahney was preceded in death by his wife of more than 52 years, Sallie Frances Bahney in 2003 and by his grandson, Robert M. Noble Jr.

His survivors include his daughters, Barbara S. Noble and her husband, Bob, of Virginia Beach, Patricia L. Austin and her husband, Jesse, of Norfolk, Janette Boedigheimer and her husband, Don, of Springfield, Ill., and Sharon J. Weitzel of Norfolk; his grandchildren, Amanda Wasenius, Christopher Ruschmeyer, Jennifer Lund, Billy Ruschmeyer, Jessica Austin, Holly Esken, Ed Boedigheimer, Tony Weitzel and Sarah Weitzel; his sister, Fredericka Wallace of Glendale, Ariz.; a brother, Leroy Bahney of Brandon, Fla.; his nephew, Kenneth Gathe of Vandalia, Fla.; a stepson, Gary Edwards and his wife, Pat, of Lakeland, Fla.; and several great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Woodlawn Funeral Home and Crematory, 6329 Virginia Beach Blvd. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1500 Sewells Point Road. The Rev. Fred J. Braswell will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow the service in the family plot at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
