With deep sorrow we announce the passing of Audrey Sniderman on September 10 , 2020.

Audrey was predeceased a mere 13 days earlier by her loving husband Sydney, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage.

She will be forever remembered by her adoring family, including her children Howie (Debbie) Sniderman, Marla (Norm) Rabinovitch and Tobi (Adam) Elman; grandchildren Ari (Faren) Sniderman, Liz Sniderman, Becky (Stephen) Plucer, Lani Rabinovitch (Evan Gelman) and Robbie Elman; great-grandson's Henry Plucer, Andy Plucer and Noam Sniderman; and her many nephews, nieces, cousins & precious friends that Audrey collected easily from near and far. She was predeceased by her parents, Curly & Rose Posen.

Audrey was born in Toronto on Dec. 7, 1938. She was a month shy of her 18th birthday when she married Syd, the love of her life. In 1961, with two young children in tow, Audrey and Syd moved to Calgary and she immediately got to work; setting up a family life for them in a city where they knew virtually no one when they arrived. In 1971, the family grew to five with the arrival of Tobi, the 'bonus baby'.

You can take the girl out of the Toronto shtetl, but you can't take the shtetl out of the girl. Having a shtetl/community of friends meant everything to Audrey, and soon after their arrival in Calgary, she and Syd became part of a "Groupa" of lifelong friends that has outlasted their own lives, and that continues on through their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to this day.

Devotion to the synagogue & her children's schools were central to the family life that Audrey built. She was a volunteer for numerous charitable causes in the community over the years; chief amongst them her work and service with the Parent's Auxiliary of the Calgary Hebrew School (now Calgary Jewish Academy) and for Beth Israel Synagogue (now Beth Tzedec Congregation), where she proudly served as President of the Sisterhood.

First and foremost, Audrey was the accountant, cook and bottle washer for her family. There was no child, grandchild or great-grandchild that wasn't the apple of her eye. She doted on all of them and kept watch over each of them like the fiercest of protectors and with the gentlest of spirits.

While Audrey's last few years were clouded by the fog of dementia, the bond between Syd & Audrey was simply unbreakable. They are now together in Gan Eden for eternity. Together, just as they were in this world with their family.

Audrey will be buried in a private graveside family funeral at the Beth Tzedec Memorial Park on Sunday, September 13, 2020. Donations in her memory may be made to Beth Tzedec Congregation or to the charity of one's choice.
