The will of Edmund Gaines was dated Oct. 2, 1815, proved in Madison County, Virginia Jan. 25, 1816. Edmund and Tabitha Gaines lived on land adjoining Angus Rucker, her brother. In 1805 Edmund Gaines bought for $50.00 ninety nine and one half acres from his brother-in-law Angus Rucker in Madison County, Virginia (county records). On May 15, 1775 Edmund's father-in-law, Ephraim Rucker, deeded to him 150 acres in Culpeper County, Virginia on Elk Run in the forks of the Rapidan and Robinson Rivers.
