Parents - John Otto Dayvault Sr. and Laura Murph Dayvault. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Douglas Ray Dayvault, brother-in-law, Ray Hope Maples, and sister-in-law, Delsie May Lawing Maples.

J.O. honorably served his country in the United States Navy. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from NC State University. John spent his career as an Aerospace Mechanical Engineer, where he shared his passion by training and mentoring others in the field. He also served as a volunteer fireman and once won an award of bravery and courage in life-saving situations presented by the City of Kannapolis.

He married the love of his life Valerie Lawing Dayvault on June 7, 1952, who survives. He was a loving husband and father who dearly cherished his family. In his free time, he enjoyed boating and water sports on Lake Norman in the Summer. He was formerly a member of Midway United Methodist Church.
