PORTSMOUTH - Helen Dacota Kaylor, 91, formerly of Connellsville, Penn. went peacefully to be with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020 at the Clipper Harbor Home, Portsmouth, N.H.

She was born April 29, 1929, in Connellsville, Penn. the daughter of the late John Nicholson and Alice (King) Basinger.

Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her husband, Henry Kaylor of Portsmouth, N.H.; daughter Georgia and husband Joseph Dirienzo of Somerset, Penn., daughter Catherine and husband Edwin Sullivan of Kittery, Maine, son Robert Dawson of Connellsville, Penn., daughter Rachelle and husband Keith Hughes of Dunbar, Penn., daughter Candace and husband Martin Hudacek of Dunbar, Penn; grandchildren, Joey, Chrissy, Mary, Forrest, Mandy, BobbiJo, Katie, Melissa, Stephanie and Jimmy; great-grandchildren, Josi, Kali, Brendon, Brock, Sully, Forrest Jr, Abby, Alexis, Cloey, Damon, Brook, Bri, Gunnar and Luke; her siblings, Dorothy Hann, Nancy Colamartino, Ella Reese, Bernice Rowan and James Nicholson; mother-in-law, Maria Waters, sisters-in-law, Linda Humbert and Ellen Basinger, brothers-in-law William Dawson, Micha Waters and West Waters, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Prior to moving to Portsmouth, N.H., Helen was employed at Anchor Hocking and The Daily Courier. She was also a member of The Central Fellowship Church. After moving to Portsmouth, N.H., she was employed at The Portsmouth Herald and served as a board member of The Hillcrest Estates Association.

Helen enjoyed reading a good novel, played a mean game of cards, and loved making items on her sewing machine for her home. She had a sharp wit, a wonderful sense of humor, loved watching the New England Patriots play football and also was a Steelers fan. She had a great love for animals, the outdoors; to include rides to the ocean beaches, and was an award-winning gardener. She loved sharing her knowledge of gardening and sharing her vegetable harvest with everyone.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by, husbands, George McNelis and Robert Dawson, siblings, Mary Stewart, Charles Basinger, John Basinger, Jim Basinger, Ralph Basinger, Ernie Basinger, and William Nicholson, brothers-in-law, Joey Kaylor, Stewart Kaylor, sister-in-law, Ann Kaylor, and daughter-in-law, Janet Dawson and granddaughter Mary Catherine Dirienzo.
