ALICE JEAN'S OBITUARY

Alice Jean (Jeannie) Byrn Mathena, age 77, of Rutledge, MO, passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2021, in Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, MO.

She was born in Hurdland, MO on April 10, 1944, the daughter of Monroe Dell and Alice Irene Winn Byrn.

She was united in marriage to Vernon Mathena on December 12, 1961, in Wyaconda, MO.

Surviving is her husband Vernon Mathena of Rutledge, MO, one daughter Melissa (Patrick) Gordon of Viola, IL, one sister Diana Sue Spory (Jim) Houston of Kahoka, MO, one granddaughter Amanda Gordon and friend Anthony Taylor of Viola, IL, a great granddaughter Luna Taylor of Viola, IL, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alice was preceded by her parents, brothers, Vernie Lee Byrn, Leonard Dee Byrn, Larry Monroe Byrn and two sisters Ruby Darlene Smith and Sandra Kay Redding.

Vernon and Alice lived in the Quad Cities for 32 years and moved to Rutledge, MO in 2001. Alice enjoyed baking, canning, gardening, crafts, going to the flea market and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Wyaconda Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 2021, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Officiating the services will be Reverend Ben Wheeler. Burial will be in the Wyaconda Cemetery.

Musical selections will be Leave This World Loving You, Angels Among Us, Gathering Flowers for the Masters Bouquet, and Go Rest High on That Mountain.

Casket bearers will be Shawn Burgess, Adam Smith, Josh Burgess, Keith Smith, Colby Smith, and Donavan Smith.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 18, 2021, after 4 p.m. with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
