Vera grew up in the Port Washington area and was a graduate of Port Washington High School in the class of 1937 before furthering her education at an office training school in Columbus. From the time of her marriage to Isaac "Ike" Bell, who preceded her in death in 1951, she was a resident of the Twin City area throughout her life and attended Dennison Presbyterian Church. On July 5, 1953 Vera married Doyle Lee Stone, enjoying nearly fifty years of marriage with him until his passing on March 16, 2003. Vera and Doyle were the owners and proprietors of the House of Stones until their retirement in 1987. In retirement, they enjoyed traveling together and spent six months each year at their winter home in Sebring, Florida. Vera was an avid and talented quilter, having made many, many quilts for her family and friends who received these gifts of love as special treasures.
She is survived by a son, Gary S. (Sue) Bell of Dennison; a step-daughter, Susan E. (Rodney) Willard of Dennison; a sister, Evelyn Barnes of Dennison; six grandchildren, Janelle (Tom) Bell-Martin of Orlando, Fla., Kristen (Tim) Ohler of Sugarcreek, Joseph Bell of Uhrichsville, Lee (Wendy) Willard of Uhrichsville, Ryan (Jennifer) Willard of Orefield, Pa. and Rachel (Jim) Grandison of Dennison; fifteen great-grandchildren, Justine and Thomas Martin, Paige and Dakotah Bell, Garrett, Bryce, Montie and Billie Jean Ohler, Nichole (Caleb) Kaffenberger, Christina (Josh) Warfield, Luke, Ethan and Brady Willard, and Aaron and Jacob Grandison; a great-great-granddaughter, Emma Rose Warfield; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Miller.
Services for Vera, officiated by Rev. Carolyn Behrendt, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19, at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Dennison Presbyterian Church or the charity of their choice, in lieu of flowers.
