At 10:40 AM on March 17, 1969, a 5-ton Army truck was traveling along the access road at LZ Liz, a U.S. Army forward support base located in Quang Ngai Province, RVN, when it a hit pressure-type mine estimated to contain 50-85 pounds of TNT. Sniper fire followed the explosion which killed the driver, PFC Edward L. Chappell, and wounded four others. They were evacuated within minutes; however, one of the wounded passengers, 1LT Robert L.
