Eugene D. Andrews, a Union Pacific Engineer, was struck by one of the local switch engines last evening at 6:20 o'clock. Mr. Andrews was immediately taken to his home at 6:19 W. Park where he died this morning at about 8 o'clock. Mr. Andrews was returning home from his work and was walking between two tracks. A freight train was passing along the main line track and the cylinder cocks were open. In order to escape the steam, Mr. Andrews stepped away from the main line track. The switch engine was crossing Seventh and approached Mr. Andrews from the rear. Probably on account of the steam escaping from the main line engine, the switch engine crew did not see Mr. Andrews until he had stepped in front of their engine and it struck him under the right shoulder crushing his ribs and causing such internal injuries that he died this morning after a night of suffering.
