John C. "Jack" Hicks, 90, of Philipsburg, passed peacefully on Friday, June 4, 2021, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Jack was born on May 7, 1931, in Philipsburg, a son of the late John C. Hicks, Sr. and Elizabeth O. (Rhodes) Hicks.

Jack was a 1949 graduate of the former Philipsburg High School. He served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War era. He was employed as a diesel mechanic with several area businesses throughout his working career.

Jack was married on May 16, 1959, in Philipsburg, to the former Betty L. Mineweaser, who survives at home.

He is also survived by a son, Michael J. Hicks and his wife, Tina, of Philipsburg; a daughter, Michele M. Fisher and her husband, John, of Catonsville, Md.; a son, Mark A. Hicks and his wife, Lisa, of Somerset; a daughter, Melissa A. Gormont and her husband, Greg of Bellwood; 10 grandchildren: Jessica, Nathan, Andrew, Joseph, Alissa, Jocelyn, Ian, Daniel, Samuel and Rachel; four great-grandchildren, Aylyn, Piper, Gracie and Wyatt; one brother, Edward L. Hicks, of Osceola Mills; and numerous other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by one infant brother and one grandson, Damian Alexander Gormont, in addition to his parents.

Jack loved spending time with his family, anything and everything to do with trains and going "hobo'n", storytelling, fishing and watching airplanes.

A private funeral service was held at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Philipsburg, with the Pastor Stephen Durr, officiating.

Interment took place at Philipsburg Cemetery.

Military Honors were accorded by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jack's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Processing Center, PO Box 863765, Orlando, FL 32886.
