Birth year was 1658 or 1659, based on age on his gravestone. Death year 1738/9 old style.

He was made a Captain upon the death of his brother Thomas Wells III in 1691. Jonathan was the "boy hero" of the Peskeomskat (Falls) Fight, and he was Military Commander of the settlement at Deerfield when the town was attacked on Feb 29, 1703/4.

His first wife was Hepzibah Colton Wells, married Dec 13,1682.

His second wife, as her second husband, was Sarah Strong Barnard Wells, married Sep 23,1698. He married, third, Lucy_____Wells.

He was the son of Thomas Wells Jr and Mary Beardsley Wells.
