King David Crockett Russell died between 1860 and 1875. The last time I can find him was in the 1860 census although his son, James Johnson Russell's pension records say "my father lived to be about 60 years of age...", which would place his death about 1875. The place of his death is also hard to prove - the options are that he either died at Venus, Madison County, Arkansas, where his family lived, or he died in Texas after his family moved there. King David Crockett Russell has not been found in the 1870 census.

So the date and place of his death have not been proven. Lots of people have said that David Russell who is buried in the Little Rock National Cemetery at Little Rock, Arkansas, is King David Crockett Russell - this is not true. That David Russell buried there was a colored member of Co. K., 113 U. S. Colored Infantry and other informtion about him does not match King David Crockett Russell's info.

King David Crockett was the son of John Russell (ca 1787 - after 1860) and Rhoda NEWBERRY Russell (1789 - after 1860).

King David Crockett Russell married 1st to Mary Louise ROBERTS (born ca 1820 died about 1853); he married 2nd to Barbara A. HAGAR, born 1831-35 died 1901. Barbara is the daughter of Christopher & Emilie ROGERS Hager. (Barbara's name is also shown as HENDERSON by some researchers so she may have been married prior to her marriage to King David Crockett Russell.)

One Russell descendant says that back in the 1970's he saw the old Russell family Bible (which disappeared and cannot now be found) and that in this Bible it said the King David died in Madison County, Arkansas, in the late 1860's and was buried in the Venus Cemetery. The Venus Cemetery was supposedly started as the "Russell Cemetery" and was begun when a young son or sons of King David died. The son(s) were buried on Russell land, under a large tree and soon others were buried there and thus the Venus Cemetery began. If King David is buried there, he has only a fieldstone with no name on it. An excerpt from a letter in 1990 from Vernie Russell, Tulsa, OK: ...."According to Aunt Allie's Bible that was her mother's, King David is buried at Venus, Ark. on land that he donated. It was originally known as Russell Cemetery...." . He goes on to say there are no names on the fieldstones that marked the first graves there.

ADDITIONAL INFO SENT TO ME IN DECEMBER 2022: Barbara is the daughter of Christopher Hager (1808-1895) and Emilie Rogers (1811-1870). The Hager surname has been spelled many different ways but in this family it goes back to Simon Heinrich Hager b. 1684 in Germany. Her father is my 3rd great grandfather. The Henderson name is unknown to my Hager research but she was 24 when she married King David and could have been married before King David. [source: C. McKenna, contributor 47038312]
