MOULTRIE — Joel Dawson "J.D." Goings, 88, of Moultrie, died Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at Colquitt Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009, at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Blackburn officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Pinecrest Memory Gardens. Casket bearers will be Joey Prince, Jacob Prince, Brian Wommack, Kasey King, Duncan Sinclair and Dale Culp. Members of the Lions Club will serve as honorary escorts. Born April 24, 1920, in Colquitt County, he was the son of the late Chester Goings and Evelyn Wingate Goings Whidby. He was a World War II Army veteran and was the former owner of Goings Menswear. He was former superintendent of the Moultrie Voting Precinct. He was past president of the Moultrie Lions Club and had served as district governor. He also served as district vice president for the Lions Camp for the Blind. He was a member of the American Red Cross, the Ham Radio Operators Club, was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and was a member of the Moultrie Shrine Club. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was a past deacon and served as Sunday School director. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Brandon Adams. Surviving are his wife, Wylene Walker Goings of Moultrie; two daughters, Sandra Adams and husband Charles and Jo Ann Prince and husband Charles, all of Moultrie; one sister, Wylean Casali of Texas; five grandchildren, Lisa Wommack and husband Brian, April King and husband Kasey, Joey Prince, Jo Beth Prince and Jacob Prince; one great-granddaughter, Anna Beth Wommack. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, April 24, at Cobb Funeral Chapel.The family may be contacted at the home of Sandra and Charles Adams, 214 Gardenia Drive in Moultrie.
