Lois Virginia Bixby, age 95, of Pittsfield, IL passed away at her home surrounded by her five children on Sunday, June 6, 2021. She was born on January 16, 1926 in McDonough County, IL, a daughter of Arthur and Della McMillan Smith. Lois married Donald K. Bixby, Sr. on May 1, 1948 in Macomb, IL and he preceded her in death on December 15, 2014.

Lois and Donald farmed in the Pike County area until his retirement in 1996, and then moved into Pittsfield. In recent years she has lived with her daughter near Mt. Sterling, IL. Lois was a homemaker, and spent her life caring for her family and friends. Her faith was primary in her life. She was a part of the New Testament Christian fellowship and made her choice to serve God in her youth. She enjoyed fellowship meetings all her life and loved the gospel story.

Lois is survived by her children, Judy Bixby of Illinois, Donald Bixby, Jr. of Maine, Shirley (Charles) Whalen of East Peoria, Robert Bixby of New Salem, IL and Elizabeth (Bruce) Helmreich of Mt. Sterling, IL; five grandchildren, Edward (Cara) Whalen, Kimberly Whalen, Elissa (Garrick) Besterwitch, Ryan (Shyanne) Helmreich, Emily (Karsten) Vigesaa; three great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Donald Bixby, Sr.; her parents, Arthur and Della Smith; and four sisters, Lola Smith, Evelyn Smith, Dorothy Sandoz and June Chaplin.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with interment following at Taylor Martin Cemetery near El Dara. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. Memorials are suggested to be made to Blessing Hospice. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
