Virgil E. Moreland

Virgil Edwin Moreland, 75, of Scherr, W.Va., died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2006, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.

Mr. Moreland was born March 2, 1931, in Scherr, W.Va., and was a son of the late Albert Moreland and Ruth Jones Moreland.

He was owner and operator of Moreland Pulpwood for over 50 years. He was a member of Brick Church of the Brethren and served in the Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Shirley Love Moreland; three sons, Allen C. Moreland and David D. Moreland, both of Scherr, W.Va., and Virgil E. Moreland II of Mount Storm, W.Va.; two daughters, Carolyn Moreland Cosner of McKinney, Texas, and Brenda Moreland of Scherr, W.Va.; four sisters, Rosalie Kessel of Maysville, W.Va., Genevieve Kessel of Scherr, W.Va., and Dorothy Cornell and Yvonne Fawley, both of Petersburg, W.Va.; three brothers, Loyal "Bing" Moreland of Mount Storm, W.Va., Donnie Earl Moreland of Elk Garden, W.Va., and James Richard Moreland of Scherr, W.Va.; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Donald E. Marple will conduct the funeral 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, W.Va. Burial will be at the Maysville Cemetery with military honors by the VFW Post 6454 of Grant County and the JROTC.
