She attended Tarleton State College, where she met Robert Milton Cox, Jr., when walking back to campus from evening services at First Baptist Church, Stephenville. Their marriage of over 69 years began on August 11, 1951, at Sidney Baptist Church.

She graduated from North Texas State University with a degree in Home Economics and taught Home Economics before she and Robert established their home in Waxahachie, where she practiced home economics daily as the loving mother of four children.

Dee, as she was known to her friends, encouraged young mothers to support their community through the Junior Service League. She supported her husband's profession through the Alliance of the Texas Dental Association, serving as President in 1987-1988.

As a woman of faith and action, she served many years as Librarian at First Baptist Church in Waxahachie, where she also served as Director of Senior Adult Bible Study and Sunday School teacher for Special Education.

She was an active member of the PTA, Vocational Advisory Board for Waxahachie ISD, Friday Book Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and served as a Cub Scout Den Mother.

As an avid reader and lover of literature, Dee had the ability to recite long passages of scripture and poetry for entertainment and instruction. She loved hosting parties in her home and was always able to connect personally with each one in attendance. As Dee Dee to 13 Grandchildren and 22 Great-grandchildren, she will be greatly missed.
