Daughter of Roberson and Frances (née Williams) Hawthorn.
(Variation of Roberson's first name: "Robeson," "Robison," "Robinson," etc.)

Martha married Chapman R. Blackman on 15 Nov 1857 in Butler County, AL. To this union, at least two children were born:

A. Blackman (female, b. 1858)
John William Blackman (b. 1865 - d. 1940)

(Blackman name variation: "Blackmon")

"DEATH OF AGED LADY
The death of Mrs. Martha Blackman occurred at the home of her son, Will Blackman in this city Thursday afternoon, Feb 26 after an illness of long duration. Deceased was 88 years of age.
The funeral services were held at the residence Friday afternoon at two o'clock, being conducted by Rev. W. A. Govett, after which interment was made in Lake View cemetery."

In all census records that may be found, her date of birth is never before 1830. Her parents were married in Wilcox County, AL on 26 Nov 1829. Her maternal grandparents were Roland and Sallie (née Davis) Williams.
She is not included with her parents who are in the 1830 census record of Wilcox county, AL. She is included, along with her parents and brother, John R. Hawthorn (b. ca. 1833 - d. 1862), in the 1840 census record of Conecuh county, AL.

As to many of the statements made in the cited interview in the attached photos of her mother, Mrs. Fannie Hawthorn, the veracity of their age would come into question in light of the census records. Other clippings of the obituary of her mother cite her mother's age from 114 to 123 while that of her living daughter, i. e. Martha, to be 80. Mrs. Hawthorn died near McCraw's Chapel, Fannin County, Texas on 19 Oct 1899; her birthday was 12 Dec (unknown year).
