Ovid F. Baxter, 74-year-old Waynoka resident, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 in the Waynoka Nursing Center. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2007 in the Quinlan United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas Corrigan officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Ovid Franklin Baxter was born Nov. 10, 1932 in Cement, Okla. to George and Pearl (McAughtry) Baxter. He was reared in Cement and attended school there. Ovid was united in marriage to Joy Achcraft. To this union they were blessed with three daughters, Lakata, Markata, and Karla. The family moved often following Ovid's work. In 1979 the family moved to Waynoka and Ovid worked at various jobs from the oil field to being a handy man.

He is survived by his daughters, Lakata Peacock and husband Alan of Quinlan; Markata Baxter of Woodward; Karla Peacock and husband Nick of Waynoka; one sister Byrena Igo of Cyril; one brother Lloyd Baxter and wife Frankie of Cement; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one grandson and two great-grandchildren.
