Stephen re-enlisted and remustered on April 22, 1864. On July 25, 1865 he mustered out in Louisville, Kentucky. He became a member of the GAR Post No. August Wentz 1 in Davenport, Iowa on Dec. 2, 1882.
He is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery Lot 351, Davenport, Iowa. Five of his children, Lillie Belle, Adalaska, Frank, Ralph and Esther (well-known opera singer) are buried there, also along with his wife Alice Houghton Plumb Baker. His son, Stephen Pope Plumb, is buried at Fairmont Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa. His son, Albert, is buried in Louisa County, Iowa. Son, William, is buried somewhere in New York.
