Here is Kendon Clark's [1942-2022] answer re the parents of John Wilburn who was the first husband of Helen Stubbs. He is very reliable-
I have John Wilburn's (Wilborn's) parents listed as William Wilburn (Wilborn) and Isabella Grier (Greer?). I also show Helen Stubb's first husband as being the above John Wilburn (Wilborn) and her second marriage to Baptiste Adrian Dugat. Of course, the latter was also Baptiste's second marriage, he having been previously married to Martha Lawrence. Baptiste and Martha were married in 1853 and she died in 1866 at only 29 years of age. Since her death left Baptiste with three surviving children of the six born to them, he was probably "in the market" for another wife as a stepmother for his younguns. John Wilburn (Wilborn) also died in 1866 so perhaps the widower Baptiste and the widow Helen were almost a meant-to-be union as she also had at least one child (William A.) by John who also needed a step dad. Baptiste and Martha were still living on Lawrence Island at the time of Martha's death in 1866, but sometime later (not sure when) Baptiste and Helen and their remaining children moved to north Texas (Knox County, I believe). I have wondered if the move was prompted to some extent by Baptiste's not wanting to remain where he and Martha had had their apparently happy marriage and their resulting children (merely conjecture on my part here). I also show another of Baptiste's children having died in 1867, which left them with only two of his and Martha's kids, plus Helen's son, William (I am not sure if he was the only child of John and Helen, however). John's surname spelling variously as "Wilburn" and "Wilborn" is another of those which causes one to wonder where the connection between the west side Wilburns and the east side Wilborns is to be found (???) Am I missing something here? I know you didn't ask for all this, but since I had it before me, thought I would go ahead and impart it to you for your always welcome consideration. Let me know what you think...Kendon [1942-2022]
