Emich Carl was married on July 4, 1787, to Henriette, youngest daughter of Heinrich XXIV, Graf zu Reuss-Ebersdorf, by his wife, Gräfin Karoline Ernestine zu Erbach-Schönberg. Henriette died on September 3, 1801. By this marriage, he had issue one son, who died in childhood within the lifetime of his mother.
Two years after the death of his first wife, on December 21, 1803, Emich married Prinzessin Victoria von Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld, fourth daughter of Franz, Herzog von Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld, by his wife, Gräfin Augusta Reuss zu Ebersdorf. His second wife was a niece of his first wife and bore him two children.
