Joy Elaine Landis (87 years of age) surrounded by her family, Joy peacefully passed away of natural causes on May 30, 2021 in Dallas, Texas. Born August 10, 1933 in Pryor, Oklahoma, Joy was the youngest of the Garrett family, which included 14 brothers and sisters. She was the daughter of the late Alfred Burman Garrett and the late Ella Mae Garrett. Joy grew up in Oklahoma and enjoyed her youth attending school and playing with her brothers and sisters. She attended Barnsdale High School and graduated in 1949.

In 1954, Joy married her husband of 52 years, Jack Clinton Landis, and they established residence in Tulsa, Oklahoma for many years. In early 1970, the Landis family moved to Plano, Texas where they resided for over 50 years. Jot and Jack lived happily together until Jack's death in 2005. Both Joy and Jack raised two wonderful children, Cathy and Kevin, whom they were most proud of, and brought them great joy and happiness. Additionally, Joy was employed by Compass Bank for many years until her retirement in 1998. After her children were on their own, Joy continued to help with raising her 6 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren, all of whom she loved so dearly.

Joy and Jack were active members of Prairie Creek Baptist Church, and thoroughly enjoyed the many friendships they developed in their Sunday School Class. She also spent alot of time in her retirement performing volunteer work including working at Medical City of Plano for many, many years. In April 2019 Joy moved to Assisted Living at the Landing at Watermere in Frisco, Texas. She loved all the residents and staff at Watermere, and considered them apart of her extended family.

Joy is survived by her children, Cathy McKinney and husband, William of Plano Texas and Kevin Landis and wife, Sharon of North Richland Hills, Texas; grandchildren, Ashton McDonald, Billy McKinney, Hunter Landis, Katie Harvey, Megan Watts, and Kevin McKinney; sister, Lavora Sandord; and many other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and 12 brothers and sisters.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, in Allen, Texas.
